The most common poisonous spiders in Colorado are the black widow and the brown recluse. These spiders are cousins and are not hunters. They usually remain where their webs are and wait for insects to catch themselves. These spiders like confined areas and feel safe in these areas. Most bites are accidental but can be very painful. Bites most often occur when someone begins moving things that have been undisturbed for a period of time. When moving wood piles or other stored items, wear gloves. If you leave shoes, boots or other clothing items stored, clean them out before wearing them. Take caution in entering crawlspace areas. Treat or fog before entering.
